ANALYSIS OF TYPE OF SHOT USED
The most common type of shots used on magazine covers are medium shots and medium close ups. Occasionally magazines also use close ups to emphasise the emotions of the artist or a long shot to represent and show a band, however these are not used as often.
Close ups
Used often to exaggerate their facial expressions and to show detail. The viewer is brought into their personal space which helps them feel like they can connect to the artist more, whilst enticing them in.
Medium close ups
Used often to shows the artists facial expressions, without getting too uncomfortably close. Help to portray the emotions felt by the artists and draws attention mainly to their faces.
Medium shot
Often framed from the waist up, to emphasise the artists faces as well as body language and clothing. Similarly, if the artist has any props which can help to represent the magazine genre.
Long shot
Long shots show the whole person's body, most common when the main cover story is a band. This is to ensure all members can be seen. However, occasionally used for individuals to show their outfit.
