DOUBLE PAGED SPREAD ANALYSIS OF KERRANG! 1

The magazine consists of a total of 18 double paged spreads; 7 featuring of interviews with artists, 4 on reviews, 5 on concerts, 1 double paged spread on feedback and 1 on subscribing to the magazine. These pages all meet the required house style as well as being relevant information for the target audience. An example of this is the fact that the interviews all feature rock artists, as seen in the strap lines on the cover. This will attract the target audience as they will gain more of an insight to the artists they like. Likewise there are pages based upon concerts and albums performed by the rock artists, therefore it will encouraging the audience to read on and maybe even attend a concert or purchase a new album. However, there are a couple of advertorials which make it difficult for the reader to tell whether they are adverts or if it’s an article.

The vibrant red text really pops out with the white border, standing out from everything else on the page and instantly drawing attention to it. In addition, the colour scheme meets the house style as the colours red and white can be seen on both, the cover and contents page. In addition, the title 'COMING HOME!' matches the smaller font 'Iron Maiden', the band in the article, which helps to clarify the key information on the page. Similarly, the same font was used for both of these making it look very professional.

The layout of this magazine is very professional and clean as all of the main article is kept in a singular column on the right hand side, therefore you can still see the main image. The font is white, therefore meeting the house style as well as standing out against the dark blue background and matching the rest of the page.

The standfirst is below the heading, making it very easy to notice and ensure you read it before the actual article. The fact that it is black text on a white box ensure it stands out from the rest of the article, yet still follows the house style to ensure the magazine is consistent throughout. In addition, because it is slightly larger than the main article it stands out more and catches the readers attention.

The mode of address used within this double page spread is very powerful, for example the use of the saying "resurrecting one of their best-ever stage shows". The key term here "resurrecting" acts as if the band are rising and coming back to life, which will result in fans becoming excited to see the band preform. In addition, by saying the sneak look was "Amazing" it will further exhilarate the fans to wish to know more, resulting in them reading on.

The main image used is very effective and suitable for this magazine. The fact that the image was taken on a stage whilst the band were preforming makes this double paged spread very professional as it is suitable with the music theme of the magazine. Similarly, the position of the singer and outfit helps to portray the genre of the magazine, providing the rocky vibe. Likewise, the use of the graphics of lighting bolts used help to show the dangerous vibe which is associated with a rock genre.
